Clophill gets its name from the word Clopelle meaning "tree-
stump hill" and is first mentioned in the Domesday book when
it belonged to a group of two or three hamlets – Beadlow,
Cainhoe and possibly Moddry. Since that time the village has
steadily grown from 706 in 1801 to 1220 by 1871.
Today Clophill is a vibrant village with a number of pubs and
restaurants along with a post office/general store, and a
primary school.
